Kirishima Shrine is the gateway to this mysterious region and its mythology. The area is mentioned in Japan's oldest historical book, Kojiki - a book that describes the birth of Japan and its first emperor, as well as fantastic legends about gods and goddesses. The Kirishima Jingu Shrine enshrines Ninigi no Mikoto, the ancestor of Japan's first emperor and grandson of Amaterasu, the sun goddess. Here, for generations, seekers of luck in money and love have visited the shrine's sprawling grounds. Before exploring the surrounding area, they pray in the magnificent vermilion-lacquered building!
When visiting Kirishima Jingu Shrine, it is convenient to stay at a hotel near Kokubu.
