We visited the Matsumoto Timepiece Museum (9:00-17:00 closed 火, last entry 16:30, 500円) in March 2026. It’s a museum dedicated to the history of timekeeping in Japan, although it apparently started as a private collection. It takes about 30min-1h to visit. If you’re short on time ;) try to come about 10-15 minutes before the hour so you can hear all the clocks chime– they are staggered so it’s not simultaneous, you can run around to see all the crazy cuckoo clocks. It's nice that there are comfortable chairs to sit on. There are labels and explanations in English, but I recommend reading the wikipedia page about old Japanese clocks (和時計) to appreciate some of the pieces.
