Roadside Station Utoro Sirietoku serves as the gateway to the Shiretoko Peninsula, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in northeastern Hokkaido, Japan. The station opened in 2007 to support tourism and provide essential services for visitors exploring one of Japan's last remaining wilderness areas. The name "Sirietoku" derives from the Ainu language, meaning "the end of the earth," reflecting the peninsula's remote and pristine character.

The facility functions as both a rest stop and information center for the Shiretoko National Park, which was designated a World Heritage Site in 2005 for its exceptional biodiversity and unique ecosystem. The surrounding area is renowned for its dramatic coastal cliffs, dense forests, and the seasonal appearance of drift ice from the Sea of Okhotsk. Brown bears, Steller's sea eagles, and various marine mammals inhabit the region, making it one of Japan's most important wildlife sanctuaries.

Visitors to the roadside station can access comprehensive tourist information, including maps and guidance for exploring nearby attractions such as the Shiretoko Five Lakes, Kamuiwakka Hot Falls, and wildlife observation points. The facility houses a restaurant serving local seafood specialties, particularly salmon and sea urchin, as well as a shop offering regional products like kelp, dried fish, and handcrafted souvenirs. Large observation windows provide views of the Shiretoko mountain range, and during winter months, the drift ice phenomenon can be observed from the coast.

The station is located approximately 50 kilometers from Shari Station on the JR Senmo Line. Visitors typically reach Utoro by bus, with regular services connecting to Shari and other regional hubs during the tourist season. Car rental is popular for exploring the peninsula's restricted access roads and remote trails. Entry to the roadside station itself is free, though fees apply for specific activities and attractions within the national park, including guided nature walks and boat tours along the peninsula's coastline.
