Viaje a Tanohata

Tanohata Village (田野畑村) is a coastal village in Shimohei District, Iwate Prefecture, Japan, located on the Sanriku Coast. It sandwiched between deep mountains and wide ocean and is part of the Sanriku Recovery National Park, offering unique landscapes different from other parts of Japan.

Kitayamazaki has large cliffs approximately 200m high that extend for approximately 8km, boasts the most impressive coastal beauty among all the coastal scenery in Japan. Known as the "Alps of the Sea", these cliffs are spectacular; Kitayamazaki on a fine day is undoubtedly one of Japan's top views.

In Tanohata Village, which is rich in nature, there are also the "Unosu Cliff Nature Trail" and the "Kitayamazaki Nature Trail, one of the 100 best walking trails. The village is part of the Michinoku Coastal Trail system, offering guided coastal walks and hiking opportunities.

The Sanriku Geopark and the remains of the earthquake disaster are also highlights of the area. Tanohata Village is located within this geopark, which showcases the region's geological features and natural recovery following the 2011 tsunami.

Main reason to visit here to admire the natural beauty of Sanriku coastal landscape, while being in real rural life by participating in its learning experience programs which are run by local people. Because of its current location, making this village unique for producing farming and fishing products in plentiful hands, at same time, visitors can experience authentic rural Japanese coastal life.
