Tateyama Sunset Pier extends 300 meters into Tokyo Bay from the coastal city of Tateyama in Chiba Prefecture, making it one of the longest wooden piers in Japan. Constructed in 1997, the pier was designed as part of Tateyama's waterfront revitalization project to provide public access to the bay and showcase the area's natural beauty. The structure features a distinctive wave-like wooden deck that creates a unique walking experience over the water.

The pier's primary draw is its unobstructed views of Mount Fuji across Tokyo Bay, particularly spectacular during sunset hours when weather conditions are favorable. On clear days, visitors can see the iconic mountain silhouetted against the evening sky, approximately 100 kilometers away. The location also offers panoramic views of the Boso Peninsula coastline and passing maritime traffic. The surrounding waters are part of a rich marine ecosystem, and seasonal fish migration can sometimes be observed from the pier's vantage point.

Visitors typically spend time walking the full length of the pier, stopping at observation points along the way. The structure includes rest areas with benches positioned to maximize views of both the ocean and Mount Fuji. Photography enthusiasts frequent the location during golden hour for landscape shots. The pier is also popular with local anglers, though fishing regulations apply. Adjacent to the pier entrance, a small plaza area features interpretive displays about the local marine environment and the region's maritime history.

Tateyama Sunset Pier is accessible by train via JR Uchibo Line to Tateyama Station, followed by a 15-minute walk or a 5-minute bus ride to Tateyama Port. The Nippon Bus service from the station stops near the pier entrance. By car, the pier is located approximately 90 minutes from central Tokyo via the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line and Tateyama Expressway, with free parking available at the nearby lot. Admission to the pier is free and it remains open to the public year-round, though accessibility may be restricted during severe weather or maintenance periods.
