Anamori Inari Shrine

Anamori Inari Shrine is a historic Shinto shrine located in Tokyo's Ota Ward, near Haneda Airport. Founded in 1468 during the Muromachi period, the shrine has served the local community for over 550 years. The shrine is dedicated to Inari Ōkami, the Shinto deity of rice, fertility, and prosperity, and belongs to the network of thousands of Inari shrines found throughout Japan.

The shrine gained particular significance as a place of worship for travelers and merchants due to its proximity to the historical Tokaido road, one of Japan's major routes during the Edo period. Local residents and visitors have long prayed here for safe journeys, business prosperity, and good fortune. The shrine's name "Anamori" translates to "protecting holes," referencing its role in safeguarding travelers from dangers along their routes.

Visitors to Anamori Inari Shrine will find a traditional shrine complex featuring vibrant vermillion torii gates, fox statues (kitsune) that serve as messengers of Inari, and the main worship hall. The shrine grounds include several smaller subsidiary shrines and stone monuments that reflect centuries of devotion. The atmosphere remains authentically local despite the urban surroundings, offering a peaceful retreat and genuine glimpse into neighborhood religious life. The shrine hosts various festivals throughout the year, with the main annual festival typically held in early June.

Anamori Inari Shrine is located approximately 10 minutes on foot from Anamori-inari Station on the Keikyu Airport Line, making it highly accessible for visitors arriving at or departing from Haneda Airport. The shrine is also about 15 minutes walking from JR Kamata Station. There is no admission fee to visit the shrine grounds, which follow the standard practice of most Japanese shrines being freely accessible to the public.
