What other travelers are saying about Ashibetsu Onsen
I booked a room at this hotel for our summer holiday, not knowing that it did not have an attached bathroom. When I arrived late last night and discovered this, I immediately requested a room change. Although they eventually moved us—only after I was made to pay extra—the new room had a broken air conditioner.
This forced my family and me to suffer through a sleepless night in the heat, and when I asked to change rooms again, I was told the hotel was fully booked. Instead, they sent me 2 fans to make do for the night! This level of service is unacceptable. I paid more for a basic level of comfort that wasn’t even provided. This has been an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience, and I will definitely not be returning.
Stayed for one night. At check in, we informed the front desk staff that we wanted to join the star gazing event on that night and we were then given an attendance coupon. However when the time came, the venue was empty. We enquired at the front desk who made some calls and told us that star gazing was cancelled for that night. Very disappointing as we were not told of the cancelation in advance. If we had known, we probably would have just came here for daytime use of onsen instead of staying the night. For some consolation, the staff told us we could go up to the rooftop to view the stars ourselves, but unsurprisingly when we tried going up at that timing communicated to us, we found the rooftop locked. Didn’t bother inquiring again. Disappointing stay. Although onsen was good, wouldn’t recommend staying overnight here.

Unfortunately we were slightly disappointed with our stay. We were only staying one night on our road trip and because we had read about the stargazing happening at 8PM we made sure to arrive on time. When we asked about the stargazing it became clear the guide wouldn't be coming in that day and access to the roof by yourself is prohibited. When you then venture out onto the road to find the stars by yourself, you notice that both the hotel and the glamping nearby have way too many lights on on the outside to see many stars, even if you go to their designated spots.
After that disappointment my girlfriend was also sad to find out that the "make your own parfait" that was promised as a cute extra consisted of a soft ice machine and some granola. Hardly as advertised.
The room we were put in was also extremely old fashioned. Luckily it was all clean and well maintained, so that wasn't such a big negative.
Not all is bad though: the staff was extremely nice and the breakfast of very high quality - super tasty!
Love their onsen and love their dinner!
Price is affordable with great food! Unlimited alcohol drinks with mini bar. Perfect place to stay after skiing at furano. A little far but worth it. Booked rooms include dinner and breakfast. Such a hidden gem!!
Quaint onsen hotel located less than an hour away from asahikawa. The style is really nice with a lot of places to locate and explore. They serve coffee around the clock and the water station is very well stocked. There is a lot of volumes of manga lined in the walls that people can read while lounging around. The onsen area is very well developed with an outdoor and an indoor area. I really enjoyed this hotel! The rooms are a bit dated but are still well maintained. This is a good place to take your family on a weekend. They served really good food too!
