We walked the entire Goshikinuma Nature Trail, and the lakes are absolutely beautiful. They truly display a unique variety of colors depending on the angle you look at them. While we didn't spot any red hues, the vibrant blues were incredibly striking and unique.
If you are coming by car, it is best to park at the East entrance.
Start by visiting the tourist information center here. They provide wonderful, detailed information about the local nature and wildlife habitats. They also rent out bear bells and long boots at a very reasonable fee! Grab your map, get your rental gear, and then hop on the local bus just outside the center. It is a quick 10-minute ride to the West entrance.
The trail itself is a very easy walk suitable for all ages with hardly any elevation. The path is a dirt road pathed with uneven small pebbles and rocks, so it can be slightly rocky underfoot, but it is generally fairly flat.
As you approach the exit back at the East entrance, you will find boat rentals on the lake. Right nearby, there is also a fantastic souvenir shop and a cafe. The shop has a wonderful, extensive variety of local Aizu products—perfect for picking up gifts.
After completing the entire trail, sitting down at the cafe for a hot bowl of Aizu Sauce Katsudon (pork cutlet with savory-sweet sauce) was extremely rewarding and delicious!
Easy, beautiful and calming trail with astounding ponds. The most fluorescent water I’ve ever witnessed. There’s a small rowing boat rental on the east side of the trail for only 1000 yen for 30 minutes that I would highly recommend taking out.
Easy and pleasant walk! Came here with my parents and the trail was very manageable. The path around the pond takes about an hour at a relaxed pace, with beautiful views and fresh air. Great spot for families and older visitors.
Incredible. Surpassed my expectations. The 4km walk was beautiful, with lots of maps and a clear path throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, and it was a great time to visit in autumn
Absolutely beautiful hiking spot. You can easily walk along multiple lake on foot. Round trip to the parking spot can be adult done in 2hrs or less. No need to have heavy hiking gear and can be done with small children too. There are few boat rental and cafe and restaurant too. Parking was free. Totally recommended.
