What other travelers are saying about Himeji Science Museum (Atom's Museum)
A very interactive and engaging museum. Kids will definitely have a blast learning and exploring a lot of the attractions in this place.
The museum consists of several floors which showcases different categories of science and history in each floor, theres also interactive games to do while viewing some of the attractions that are here.
Take note of the viewing deck at the top floor which I recommend taking a peek at.
The museum is open daily from 9:30 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:30. The museum is closed on Tuesdays (or the following day if Tuesday is a public holiday), the day after a public holiday falls on Saturday or Sunday, and during the New Year's Holiday period from December 27 to January 3. Additional closures may occur for equipment maintenance and inspection.
General admission to the permanent exhibitions costs 600 yen, while elementary, junior high, and high school students pay 210 yen. Children before elementary school age enter free. If you wish to attend a planetarium show, there is an additional fee of 600 yen for adults. The planetarium and permanent exhibitions require separate tickets.
Yes, the museum is highly suitable for families with children. The museum offers hands-on science activities and exhibitions, and includes a planetarium and dinosaur fossils. The interactive exhibits on the third floor allow children to conduct experiments and learn scientific principles through play. The museum is a popular destination for school trips and family outings, with programs that encourage creativity and exploration. The well-designed layout makes navigation easy for families with young children.
Since there is no nearby train station, visitors typically take the Himeji City Loop Bus from Himeji Station to the museum. The bus fare is around 200 yen. The journey provides scenic views as the museum is located in a mountainous area near Sakurayama Park. Alternatively, visitors can drive, as on-site parking is available. If traveling by car, the museum is located at 1470-15 Aoyama, Himeji.
Visitors should allocate at least half a day to fully enjoy the exhibits and activities. This allows sufficient time to explore the three floors of permanent exhibitions, watch a planetarium show (which requires a separate ticket and scheduled time), and participate in any hands-on experiments or special exhibitions that may be available. Planning to visit during weekdays can help avoid larger crowds, especially if traveling with children.
