I used this trail when walking back from the Upper Hiruzen trailhead to the Lower Hiruzen trailhead after traversing the Hiruzen traverse. It's a valuable road that allows not only cyclists but also hikers, trail runners, and general runners to travel safely. I'm grateful that such a wonderful road is maintained. Compared to roads for cars, there's plenty of shade, which is especially appreciated in the summer.
It's a bicycle-only road with a circumference of about 30km. There are some intersections with public roads, but there are generally traffic lights or crosswalks, so you can ride safely.
There are some ups and downs here and there, but it's basically flat. It's suitable for beginners, and you can take shortcuts along the way to finish.
We rode for two hours, then took a shortcut, finishing in about 20km in total, in two and a half hours! Still, it felt great and was a great workout!!
Although it's a cycling path, I used it for walking. It was an incredibly easy course to walk on, and it felt like I was walking in Hokkaido, which was very pleasant. It might snow in winter, but I think it's a fantastic course in other seasons.
I completed the 30km course in 5 hours on a sunny day, with my 10-year-old child in tow.
The rest stops along the way only have cycling course maps and benches; there are no vending machines. Once you leave the area with convenience stores and Jersey Land, there are no places to buy drinks for a while, so be aware of that.
I saw caterpillars crossing the course at incredible speed countless times.
At first I thought, "Ew! Caterpillars!", but I got used to them after seeing so many!
The sense of accomplishment after finishing is addictive. I want to try again.
I came cycling on May 20, 2018.
