Hojo Beach, Tateyama

Hojo Beach is located in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture, situated on the scenic Tateyama Bay, also known as Kagamigaura or Mirror Bay due to its characteristically calm waters that reflect like a mirror surface. This sandy beach stretches along the western shore of the bay, approximately two hours from Tokyo, making it a convenient coastal escape from urban life.

The beach holds significant cultural importance as one of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's 100 best views of Mount Fuji in the Kanto region. Its western orientation provides exceptional sunset views over the horizon, and on clear days, visitors can witness the iconic silhouette of Mount Fuji rising in the distance. The beach is particularly famous for the Diamond Fuji phenomenon, which occurs twice yearly in mid-May and mid-July, when the sun sets directly behind Mount Fuji's peak, creating a spectacular diamond-like effect.

Visitors can enjoy swimming in the bay's shallow, gentle waters, making it especially popular with families. The beach hosts seasonal cultural events including fireworks displays and flamenco festivals throughout the year, drawing crowds who appreciate both the natural beauty and cultural programming. The long stretches of sand feature several wooden walkways extending into the bay, providing ideal vantage points for photography and sunset viewing.

The beach is exceptionally accessible, located just a 3-minute walk from JR Tateyama Station's west exit. Regular train services connect Tateyama to Tokyo and other major cities. For visitors driving, free parking is available for approximately 300 vehicles on-site. Admission to the beach is completely free, making it an affordable destination for day trips or extended stays.
