Ikei Ohashi Bridge, Uruma

4.7 (342)BridgeTourist AttractionTransportation ServicePoint Of InterestEstablishment

Ikei Ohashi Bridge forms the final spectacular segment of Okinawa's renowned Mid-Sea Route, a 4.75-kilometer driving route that connects Okinawa's main island to a chain of pristine offshore islands. This bridge provides the only vehicular access to Ikei Island, the most remote island in this scenic archipelago, located approximately 25 minutes by car from the Katsuren Peninsula in Uruma City.

The bridge represents a remarkable feat of coastal engineering, constructed as part of a comprehensive island-linking project that transformed access to Okinawa's outer islands. The Mid-Sea Route was developed to connect previously isolated communities and open these pristine islands to tourism and economic development. The bridge serves as the gateway to Ikei Island, which covers 1.72 square kilometers and maintains its traditional Okinawan character with ancient sacred sites and untouched beaches.

Ikei Bridge offers visitors an extraordinary ocean-crossing experience, with panoramic views of emerald waters and coral reefs extending in all directions. The drive across provides spectacular vistas of the East China Sea, particularly striking during sunrise and sunset when the sky reflects off the crystal-clear waters below. The bridge approach offers excellent photography opportunities, with traditional Shisa lion statues positioned strategically to overlook the span. Visitors can explore Ikei Island's pristine beaches, snorkeling spots, and traditional Okinawan villages once they cross the bridge.

The bridge is accessible via the complete Mid-Sea Route journey, which begins at the Katsuren Peninsula and crosses three intermediate islands: Henza Island, Miyagi Island, and Hamahiga Island before reaching Ikei Island. Rental cars are available throughout Okinawa, with major agencies located near Naha Airport and urban centers. The route is well-signposted and suitable for all driving skill levels. No tolls are charged for crossing any of the bridges on the Mid-Sea Route, making it a cost-effective scenic drive. Parking is available on Ikei Island near beaches and tourist facilities.

The bridge is the longest in Miyakojima and personally, I think this is the best The bridge do not have any fee, like all others The views are spectacular and I can admire the Miyakojima blue from above The sea breeze is refreshing and cool Nicest bridge I have driven on in my whole life
What a beautiful place here in miyakojima. This is a bridge that connects Miyako Main Island and Ikema Island. The place was amazing, you felt relaxed and peaceful. There is an observation deck on the right side of the road before crossing it. There also is a small parking lot and restroom.
The sun shined brightly that day. Lots of interesting shops on both sides of the bridge.
Wow such a nice bridge. There is an observation deck on the right side of the road before crossing it. Take time to stop and enjoy the view. There is a small parking with where you can also find restrooms.
