Katsumori Park is located in the center of Iizuka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, approximately 35 kilometers east of Fukuoka City. Originally established in 1921, the park began as a 4,896 tsubo (approximately 16,182 square meters) space with walking paths and planted greenery. The park was established in 1925 and stands as the oldest public park in Iizuka City, reflecting the area's historical connection to the prosperous coal mining industry that once defined the Chikuho region.

The park's primary significance lies in its seasonal floral displays. Approximately 300 cherry blossom trees and 8,000 azaleas transform the landscape each spring, making it a popular destination for flower viewing. The park features a large central pond with fountains, which serves as habitat for numerous waterfowl including swans, black swans, ducks, mallards, and geese. The park also displays an old steam locomotive, paying tribute to the region's industrial heritage. The grounds include playgrounds and children's facilities situated on a small hill, along with walking paths suitable for leisurely strolls.

Visitors experience a tranquil, family-friendly environment ideal for picnics, nature walks, and seasonal photography. The park includes a tea house where guests can enjoy matcha while appreciating the scenery. The park attracts primarily local residents rather than large tourist crowds, creating a peaceful atmosphere throughout the year. During peak cherry blossom season, temporary food stalls appear to accommodate flower viewers.

Katsumori Park is accessible from Iizuka Station on the JR Kyushu Chikuhō Main Line (Fukuhoku Yutaka Line). From Fukuoka, trains to Iizuka depart every 30 minutes and take approximately 40 minutes. From Fukuoka Airport, the journey requires a transfer at Hakata and takes approximately 1 hour 8 minutes. Free parking is available with 87 spaces. Entry to the park is free of charge. For inquiries, contact 0948-22-5500 (Urban Development Department, Urban Planning Division, Parks and Greenery Section).

The park looks beautiful during snow. We went there today and it was full of snow everywhere. There was less people. Best for snow photography.

Not sure if fireworks can be seen from here. Would recommend to sit by the river bank instead for the annual iizuka firework festival.
