There are two staircases leading to the main building. My wife and I walked up to the top of the first one, and we stopped and looked around, not even taking any pictures, for about 30 seconds. Then a woman came down and shouted at us asking us to pay the entrance fee. It is very “un-Japanese”. Obviously, all the mood of visiting the place was gone and we left.
