The Kobe Maritime Museum is an absolute gem in the Meriken Park area. Even before you step inside, the building itself captures your attention with its spectacular, white framework roof designed to look like a ship's sails. It is truly an architectural masterpiece, especially when lit up beautifully at night!
Inside, the museum offers a fascinating journey through Kobe's history as a major international port. The detailed ship models, historical artifacts, and interactive exhibits are incredibly well-presented and engaging for all ages.
The highlight for many—including myself—is the Kawasaki Good Times World section included with the ticket. As a fan of engineering and technology, seeing the historic Kawasaki motorcycles, racing bikes, Shinkansen (bullet train) simulators, and helicopters up close was a thrilling experience. It’s highly interactive and a lot of fun!
The museum is spacious, clean, and perfectly air-conditioned, making it a wonderful escape for a couple of hours. It offers a great blend of maritime history and modern industrial innovation. Highly recommended if you are visiting Kobe

Found the Kawasaki portion more interesting and informative. Did not know that they had that many products.

Enjoyable museum on ships and maritime history with some interactive elements (eg. Pilot a ship into port, or load a container).
There are English explanations at some displays and a brochure also in English and other languages.

We had a great time. Our two kids enjoyed it, especially the two interactive activities (be a freight crane operator and steer a ship into Kobe port area). And the Kawasaki part of the museum for which you need a separate ticket it was definitely worth it. There we spent two hours and left 1 minute before closure. They have many interactive parts there and the kids loved it. I also enjoyed flying a Cesna from and back to Kobe airport in a simulator that also moves and rotates the cockpit. For this one you need to have 10 years old an one of the girls cried for not having the age.
Nice place to visit if you are a enthusiast of ships and port history. Lots of miniature replicas of ships throughout history, especially cruise ships. There's also a section on the development of Kobe as a port city. Shop museum and Kawasaki world is inside the paid area.
