Kojima Lake Flower Corridor is a natural green space in Minami Ward, Okayama City, adjacent to the Hanakairo Golf Course. The site is part of an environmental restoration project initiated by DOWA Holdings in 2007, working alongside local communities to plant kawazu cherry trees around Lake Kojima with the aim of creating a "Kawazu Cherry Blossom Village." Over the years, approximately 6,000 kawazu cherry trees have been planted throughout the area, making this the prefecture's largest collection of kawazu cherry trees.

The corridor primarily features kawazu cherry blossoms, an early-blooming variety characterized by vibrant pink flowers and an extended blooming period from early February to early March lasting about one month. The annual Lake Kojima Flower Corridor Cherry Blossom Festival is held every year in early March, attracting numerous visitors who enjoy hanami beneath the brilliant pink canopy. In autumn, the site transforms into a crimson landscape when approximately 650,000 spider lily bulbs bloom in late September. The Higanbana Tour is held during this season, allowing visitors to witness the dramatic red carpet effect created by these flowers.

The corridor includes the Abe Pond embankment (known as Abe Pond Sakura Road) and the open area near Okanami Airport, where visitors can walk beneath extensive cherry tree tunnels. The flat terrain makes the site accessible for leisurely strolls, and the contrast between the delicate pink blossoms or fiery red spider lilies against the surrounding landscape creates striking photo opportunities.

From JR Okayama Station, take the Ryobi Bus Limited Express bound for Tamano/Shibukawa and disembark at Chikko Shinmachi, followed by a 10-minute walk. Alternatively, take the Okaden bus bound for Okayama Rosai Hospital, alight at Chikko Shinmachi, and walk approximately 15 minutes. By car, the site is approximately 40 minutes from Sanyo Expressway Okayama IC or about 35 minutes from Seto Chuo Expressway Hayashima IC. Admission to the natural green space is free throughout the year.

Traveler reviews

I went to the Kojima Lake Flower Corridor Kawazu Cherry Blossom Viewing Event, held on March 14th and 15th, 2026. The location is near Kojima Lake, and this was my first visit. The event, timed to coincide with the peak blooming season of Kawazu cherry blossoms, was much more lively than I expected. There were families, couples, and many elderly people, all enjoying the spring scenery at a leisurely pace, which was very impressive. This location is normally used as a golf course, but during the event, the large grounds were utilized to allow visitors to enjoy the cherry blossoms. The most popular activity was the tour of the cherry blossoms in a golf cart, and there was a long line at the reception. I wanted to try it, but I had to give up due to time constraints. Even just walking around was enough to fully enjoy the spring scenery. There were also many food trucks at the venue, offering a wide variety of food, from savory dishes to crepes and sweets. The atmosphere was perfect for enjoying food while strolling around and viewing the blossoms, and this area was also very lively. What surprised me even more was the meticulous attention to detail in the organization. Not only were toilets and trash cans placed throughout the area, but there were also rest tents and nursing spaces, making for a very comfortable stay. I am truly grateful for the thoughtfulness of the DOWA Holdings Group, the organizers. A little further on, Kojima Lake unfolds, offering a beautiful view. Across the lake is Okayama Airport, and if you're lucky, you can see planes taking off. The combination of cherry blossoms, the lake, and airplanes is quite unusual and interesting, and I found myself gazing at it for quite some time. I heard that in autumn, this area is covered in blooming spider lilies. While I thoroughly enjoyed the Kawazu cherry blossoms in spring, I'd like to see the autumn scenery next time.

[A Limited-Time Spectacular View! Impressed by 6,000 Kawazu Cherry Blossoms] We traveled from Shikoku early in the morning to see the Kawazu cherry blossoms in full bloom. Following our navigation system, we exited the Seto-Chuo Expressway at Mizushima IC, but we were amazed by the seemingly endless straight road of Prefectural Road 22! It was an open and expansive view rarely seen in Shikoku, and our excitement grew even before we reached our destination. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a sea of cherry blossoms in full bloom. This area is normally operated as a golf course, and is only open to the public during the cherry blossom festival. Approximately 6,000 Kawazu cherry trees are planted around Kojima Lake, and their scale and beauty are truly breathtaking. Food trucks were also set up at the venue, so we could enjoy light meals while admiring the blossoms. We decided to visit based on everyone's reviews, and we're so glad we did. Thank you!

Kawazu Cherry Blossom Viewing Festival 2026.3.15🌸 This year marks the fourth time this event has been held, offering free admission to approximately 6,000 Kawazu cherry trees, one of the largest collections in western Japan✨ It's only a two-day festival, but there were plenty of food trucks, and since it's on a golf course, you can also drive around on a paid cart⛳️ The vibrant pink Kawazu cherry blossoms looked stunning against the clear blue sky, typical of Japan's sunny region, and the Abe Pond embankment (where cherry blossom viewing is usually possible) was also bustling with activity🥰
