Marunouchi Building

4 (11544)Point Of InterestEstablishment

The Marunouchi Building, commonly known as Marubiru, stands as one of Tokyo's premier mixed-use skyscrapers in the prestigious Marunouchi business district, directly facing the Marunouchi side of Tokyo Station. Completed in 2002, this 37-story tower reaches 179 meters in height and was developed as part of the extensive urban redevelopment of the Marunouchi area, replacing the original 1923 Marunouchi Building. The development marked a significant shift in transforming this traditional business quarter into a vibrant commercial and cultural destination.

The building exemplifies modern Tokyo's integration of business, dining, and retail experiences within a single architectural space. The lower floors house approximately 150 shops and restaurants, ranging from international fashion brands to gourmet dining establishments, while the upper floors contain premium office space. The 35th and 36th floors feature the Marunouchi House, a collection of sophisticated restaurants offering panoramic views across Tokyo, including vistas of the Imperial Palace gardens, Tokyo Station's historic red-brick façade, and the city skyline extending toward Tokyo Bay.

Visitors can explore the building's extensive shopping and dining options, with particular emphasis on the rooftop terrace area that provides open-air relaxation space rare in central Tokyo. The ground floor connects directly to underground passages linking to Tokyo Station and neighboring buildings, making it a convenient meeting point and transit hub. Food enthusiasts will find diverse cuisines represented across multiple floors, from casual cafes to upscale dining venues, many featuring seasonal menus that reflect Japanese culinary traditions.

The Marunouchi Building is accessible via Tokyo Station, served by multiple JR lines including the Yamanote, Chuo, and Keihin-Tohoku lines, as well as the Marunouchi subway line. The building entrance is approximately a three-minute walk from the station's Marunouchi North Exit. Entry to the building and most common areas is free, though individual shops and restaurants maintain their own pricing.
