We came here on 3 May and there were still so many different types of Sakura trees in bloom. In Hakodate, almost all the trees are already flower less so this is still an excellent place to come to. Worth the drive along the coastline for the sakura. There were also lots of food and drink vendors still there.
Sakura blooming season but at this park, there are so many species that not all have started blooming so I can imagine more to come over the next 1-2 weeks. Lovely place for Sakura lovers!
We came when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. Lovely place to have a picnic although it was quite windy.
Fantastic place to see Sakura Blossom. This place have many different types of Sakura. When you drive from Hakodate to here, the shore line views are excellent !
Matsumae Park is a spacious and historically rich park that blends nature and heritage in a way that feels both relaxed and meaningful. Walking through the grounds, you are surrounded by wide open paths, gentle slopes, and views that change with the seasons, making it an enjoyable place to explore at an unhurried pace.
The presence of Matsumae Castle adds depth to the experience, grounding the park in history while never overwhelming the calm atmosphere. During cherry blossom season, the park becomes especially lively, but even outside peak bloom, it remains a pleasant place for quiet walks and reflection. Matsumae Park feels like a place where history, scenery, and everyday local life come together naturally.
