What other travelers are saying about Miyazaki Shrine
A peaceful and sacred place surrounded by nature. Miyazaki Jingu is beautifully maintained, with a serene atmosphere that invites you to slow down and reflect. The tall cedar trees, elegant architecture, and quiet paths create a truly calming experience. It’s not crowded, which makes it feel even more special. A must-visit spot if you’re in Miyazaki and want to feel a deeper connection to Japan’s spiritual heritage.
I really enjoyed Miyazaki Jingo and the surrounding small forest area. Larger than many shrines and makes for a nice stroll.
While visiting I was lucky to catch some chanting/singing - it’s a meditative experience.
The shrine itself is beautiful, but the surrounding forest is surprisingly nice. There are rows of tall trees that make it hard to believe that this is downtown Miyazaki.
There is a forest path leading to the museum, and it is very beautiful. It won't be easy to find as it doesn't appear on the map.
Wow! In Tokyo, a place like this would be knee-deep in people. Here, I could stroll about with few others about, but a general sense of calm. Highly recommended. Free entry and plenty of parking (I visited on weekday).
I really loved this shrine. The pictures can't capture its beauty. It was so serene and loved how it was surrounded by trees. Would definitely love to come back someday. Definitely one of my favorites from my Miyazaki trip.
Miyazaki Shrine is open 24 hours daily and admission is completely free. The shrine grounds are accessible year-round, though the main shrine office typically operates from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM for special services, omamori (charms), and goshuin stamp collection.
From Miyazaki Station, take JR Nippo Line to Miyazaki Jingu Station (約10 minutes). The shrine is a 10-minute walk from the station. Alternatively, take Miyazaki City Bus bound for Miyazaki Jingu from Miyazaki Station (約20 minutes) and get off at Miyazaki Jingu-mae bus stop.
Miyazaki Shrine (Miyazaki Jingu) is famous for enshrining Emperor Jinmu, Japan's legendary first emperor. Visitors can explore the sacred forest with ancient camphor trees over 400 years old, traditional shrine architecture, and participate in prayers for success, safe travels, and family prosperity. The shrine is especially popular during New Year and autumn festivals.
The best times to visit Miyazaki Shrine are during Hatsumode (New Year, January 1-3), Spring Festival in early May, and the annual Autumn Festival in October. Cherry blossom season (late March to early April) and autumn foliage (November) also offer beautiful scenery within the shrine's sacred forest grounds.
When visiting Miyazaki Shrine, follow standard Japanese shrine etiquette: bow before entering torii gates, purify hands and mouth at the temizuya water basin, bow twice-clap twice-bow once when praying, dress modestly, speak quietly, and avoid pointing cameras directly at sacred areas. Photography is generally allowed in public areas but be respectful of worshippers.
