What other travelers are saying about Nakamise Shopping Street
If you’re in Tokyo and looking for a great street shopping experience, this is the place to be. This historic shopping street is rich in culture and gives a unique glimpse into Tokyo’s past. At its center stands the iconic Sensoji Temple. It’s just a 2-minute walk from Asakusa Station on the Ginza Metro Line.
I arrived early in the morning to see this place and although it says open 24 hours, all the shops were (rightly) closed.
Some open to the public at 8am.
Better to see it early to avoid too many crowds
Fantastic old town street, very touristy area. Lots of fun souvenirs and food. Many people dress up in Kimonos, not sure if they’re locals, but many foreigners for sure.
Popular shopping Street just south of Senso-Ji. It is recommended to go as early as possible as this is a very busy area of Asakusa. Tickets not required for entry, however at any time past 12pm, be prepared for wait times for stores and restaurants of upwards of 30 minutes.
Our gacha addiction started here. There are lots of food to try and gacha machines to play. I recommend bringing a tote bag for all the stuff you’ll most likely buy. By the way, there is a store beside Sensoji that sells Studio Ghibli merchandise.
