What other travelers are saying about Nishikigoi Village
Loved visiting the koi fish and learning about the different kinds. There was a video in English that was helpful to understand how they are raised. My friend and I fed the fish which was a lot of fun.

April to November is optimal. Koi are most active and colorful during warmer months. Winter access can be difficult due to heavy snowfall in Yamakoshi, and koi become less active in cold water.
The village itself does not sell koi directly. However, the surrounding Yamakoshi area has numerous professional breeding farms where purchases can be arranged. Inquire at the village for breeder contacts or visit farms separately.
Yes. The feeding experience is safe and engaging for children. Outdoor ponds are accessible, though supervision near water is necessary. Visual exhibits work for all ages, but detailed information is primarily in Japanese.
Not for basic activities. Viewing ponds and feeding koi require no language skills. Museum exhibits and educational content are mainly in Japanese with limited English, so a translation app or Japanese-speaking companion is helpful for detailed information.

The Koi were somenof the most beautiful ones i ever seen and huge too. A very well maintained place. Entrance staff lady was exceptionally polite and spoke some english. The place really give an insight of Koi history with pictures and diagrams. Good place to bring family with kids as well.
Amazing! The entry fee was ¥510 per adult and ¥100 for a small cone of food. It was all so worth it! The small museum is well kept and the English translations are amazing. I had an awesome time learning about the history of koi in the region.
My partner and I were also both enamoured with the feeding pond. The fish were so friendly! They give kisses when you feed them and it's unlike anything I've seen before!
We stumbled on this because we were searching for all the Pokémon lid man covers.
It was a small but full of information on the Koi and genuinely cool.
Nice little fish zoo. So many koi fish that you can feed and they all gather and follow you around the pond. There are moments when they might seem a bit disgusting with their thronging to get food and opening their mouths all the same time. But they are beautiful when they are calmly swimming. Some of these guys are as old as 40 years old.
