> Visiting Ohashi Cherry Farm (大橋さくらんぼ園) in Ashibetsu during our summer road trip across Hokkaido was an absolute highlight and easily one of the most enjoyable, rewarding fruit-picking experiences we have ever had in Japan. From the moment we pulled into the spacious, easy-to-navigate parking lot after a scenic drive from Furano, we were immediately impressed by the sheer scale, meticulous organization, and welcoming atmosphere of the entire orchard. Featuring Japan’s largest all-weather rain dome, the massive farm is thoughtfully sheltered, allowing visitors to wander through endless rows of fruit-laden trees in total comfort regardless of whether it is raining or blazing hot outside. The diversity of cherries cultivated here is truly mind-blowing, ranging from iconic Japanese varieties like sweet Sato Nishiki to giant, deep-red Nanyo and even the prized yellow Gassan Nishiki, giving you the rare opportunity to sample world-class fruit at its absolute peak of freshness. Thanks to over forty years of organic, chemical-free soil care, every single cherry we picked directly from the branches was remarkably plump, firm, incredibly juicy, and packed with a rich, natural sweetness that put store-bought fruit to shame. The all-you-can-eat picking option with no restrictive timer meant we could stroll through the serene, sunlit orchard completely stress-free, taking our time to savor different flavor profiles, take lovely photos among the lush greenery, and soak in the peaceful countryside setting. The local staff could not have been warmer or more hospitable—they greeted us with bright smiles, patiently guided us toward the sections with the sweetest, ripest fruit, and offered helpful tips on how to harvest gently without damaging the trees. Before heading back out onto the open road, stopping by the main farm building was a total treat in itself; their signature cherry soft-serve ice cream was intensely refreshing, and their shop is packed with wonderful souvenirs like homemade fruit preserves, artisanal cherry vinegars, and beautifully packed fresh gift boxes to enjoy later on our trip. Everything about the farm reflects incredible passion and care, striking the perfect balance between authentic agricultural tourism and convenient, high-quality guest comfort. If you are planning an itinerary through central Hokkaido during the summer cherry season in July or August, making a stop at Ohashi Cherry Farm is an absolute must-visit experience that will leave you with fantastic memories and a very satisfied sweet tooth.
Plenty of parking spots, and so much of cherry 🍒 to pick from. The farm is really well being taken care of. The staffs are friendly. We spend 1-1.5 hours here.
It is not about you can eat a lot to make it worth the money, but I think it is the experience, atmosphere, and appreciation.
It would be nice if they can provide the information about each type of cherry in detail.
there's a few tables, wet tissue, water for hand wash available. it is convenient for fruit pick and enjoy the food in the farm itself. kids friendly too!

We came on 8 August 2026 and were informed that cherry picking season had ended. The staff informed there would be other fruits like apples but the season only starts in end-August.
You can still come to buy cherries and jams.
