What other travelers are saying about Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan
This was really impressive and definitely worth going to. We came with both or kids (ages 9 & 13) and spent a little over 2hrs there. The layout is quite unique, with the walking path wrapped around the HUGE main tank that features the whalesharks and other large fish.
We arrived at 10am (doors open) on a Monday and had no problems buying tickets on arrival. Only a very short line.
The aquarium itself was quite busy - but not annoyingly so. Easy to get to on the train. All up, everyone in our group really enjoyed this and rated it as one of the best aquariums we've visited.
One of the most popular aquarium in Japan. The aquarium itself designed uniquely to reflect a dynamic presentation of underwater living beings. The aquarium space is kinda limited but house varieties of fishes.
The exhibits are engaging and informative based on specific geographical locations of oceans around the world, from Australia to the Arctic. It one of the places well-suited for student field trips or families with kids. The stamp collection via booklet excites kids in the journey.
Taking the train there requires a sort of 10 minutes walk from the nearest station. However, surrounded with some nicely architectural designed buildings like NHK building. The walk takes through a small park towards a real size display of one of Japan traditional house on stilts.
The aquarium located next to a jetty and seaport. Inside includes a cafe and souvenir shop. Overall, a valuable and educational visit for kids.
This aquarium is one of the most popular in Japan, and I can see why—it’s well-presented and thoughtfully designed. While it’s not as large as I expected, both in terms of walking space and the size of the tanks, the exhibits are engaging and informative. Kinda sad for big living things living in such space. It feels especially well-suited for student field trips or families with kids.
The location is a plus—surrounded by many other nearby attractions, making it easy to plan a full day of activities. Don’t miss the souvenir shop downstairs! It has a great selection of cute and unique items to remember your visit. Overall, a pleasant and educational stop, especially if you’re already in the area.
Osaka Aquarium was definitely worth the visit. We arrived mid-afternoon on a Saturday and it was quite busy. Thankfully, the aquarium has a system that allows entry per set block time based on the time slot you purchase. They are set 15 minutes apart which made it convenient as well as controlled the flow of people inside to avoid overcrowding. The aquarium itself is MASSIVE and houses all kinds of fish and animals that will delight anyone. From common jellyfish to more exotic wild life. But the crown jewel of the aquarium is the massive 360 degree fish tank housing two whale sharks, dozens of hammer head sharks, manta rays, sting rays and many more. You traverse down 4/5 floors winding around the fish tank and providing an immersive experience from all angles. Seating is available throughout to provide a more comfortable and relaxing experience for those who wish to sit and enjoy the sights. I highly recommend this for the whole family.
The best aquarium I have been to. Aquatic life was very much a lot like what I have seen before in other places.. until I saw the whale shark and some super massive stingrays. That clearly topped anything I have seen before. The other major sell was effectively having a regular marker on the walkway giving you the distance remaining in your aquarium visit which really helps you plan ahead if you had any other agenda in the day. They had some cool ink stamps in the shape of the aquatic animals at every turn and corner.. which you could put on your notebook or paper to take back home as a small souvenir. Tickets can be bought at the place. Both credit cards and cash options available.
