What other travelers are saying about Osaka Sumo Stadium (EDION Arena Osaka)
Went to see a Sumo tournament here. Definitely worth doing if you are going to be in the area at the appropriate time. You'll need to plan ahead though. Tickets for the day we went sold out months before we got to Japan. We went with the traditional tatami seating and that was definitely the right call! It was really fun being somewhat closer to the action and honestly I found it more comfortable than typical western arena type seating. I would absolutely like to go again for the Sumo but the venue itself was really really nice as well. It had plenty of space. Easy to get into and out of etc.

Came here to watch the Osaka Grand Sumo Tournament 2024. It’s a big facility several levels high. You can watch the Sumo tournament from anywhere. Some seats are better than others. Box seating is on the lower levels and has no chairs or back rest but much more roomy than the seats. The seats are very tight. They sell limited food, snacks, drinks and beer. There is no cooling system and it got hot in the arena. There are lots of places to eat and drink in the surrounding streets and area.
We enjoyed the grand sumo tournament at this arena. 15m walk from Dontonbori district. Seating was good and the viewing of the matches was pretty good.
I've been a sumo fan since around 2015, and it's always been a dream to fly to Japan and see a live basho. The arena is small but that ends up being a massive plus as every seat seemed like it'd be a great view, similar to how seeing a hockey game feels back stateside.
Highly recommended if you're in the area next year when the basho is back in Osaka.
Hope you'll see your fav rikishi snag a W, sadly I had to watch Hoshyru lose :(
I have seen 2 sumo tournaments here and it's such a fun, unique, and enjoyable experience. The arena is beautiful and offers traditional Japanese seating, condiments, omiyage, and English assistance. The best part is that you can bring your own food and drinks into the arena and have your own picnic while watching the game. Pro tip: Try to identify a few wrestlers ahead of time to root for, it makes the experience more collaborative and lots of observers will appreciate the support.
