What other travelers are saying about Shigira Beach
Beautiful beach with easy, shallow entry, clear water, beautiful colors. We spent two day. Here and hav the best of fun. You can swim few hundred meters to man made rest place, you can snorkel and see turtles and many fishes. Just gorgeous
Shigira Beach is a stunning destination for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts. The vibrant coral reefs are teeming with life, showcasing a variety of colorful tropical fish and the chance to swim alongside graceful sea turtles. The water clarity is exceptional, making it easy to appreciate the underwater beauty.
During my visit, I was amazed by the diversity of marine life: corals and turtles. Overall, Shigira Beach is a must-visit spot for anyone looking to explore the wonders of the ocean!
A beautiful white sand beach and lagoon with calm and shallow water. Coral reefs are very lively and beautiful, you can see many kinds of tropical fish and sea creatures including clown fish, sea urchin, see snake, angelfish, lagoon triggerfish, etc. The water is not as clear as other crystal clear beaches in Miyako, but it’s clear enough to see the sea creatures. It’s worth visiting as you can enjoy schools of beautiful fish in tranquil bay. Many snorkeling tours start from this beach. My 5yo and 4yo enjoyed snorkeling here too. You might be able to see sea turtles too (according to the hotel concierge there are 3 to 4 turtles around in the bay) .
You can rent snorkel gears at the beach house. Otherwise make sure to bring your own snorkel and safety systems including life jacket and reef shoes.
Be aware of the tide conditions and timings, when I visit there in July I was told by the hotel concierge that you need to snorkel in the morning not the afternoon.
Conveniently located for those who stay at the Shigira Beach Resort. Those who come by car need to pay parking fee.
One of best snorkeling spots. Be aware of one fish species which is aggressive and might threaten you. They will probably not bite or hurt you. Usualy those fishes swim in pair following you from behind or just under you. They might follow you up to hundred meters, atack from behind and catch on your fins. Especially if your fins are other than black color. Size of the fish is about 30 to 50 cm.
Best beach for snorkeling -just make sure you enter the water not right in front of sun beds but at the place where snorkeling tours enter. There is a snorkeling gear rental shop and a canteen close to it, as well as showers and lockers. 2or 3 sea turtles live here, so there is a high chance of meeting them. Lots of coral, but make sure you come either early in the morning or after 3 pm coz 1pm is a very low tide. The water can be very clean or not so much depending on the weather.
April to October provides suitable swimming conditions with water temperatures of 25-30°C. May, June, and September have fewer crowds. July and August are warmest but have typhoon risk. November to March has air temperatures of 18-22°C, making swimming uncomfortable.
