Great place for a few days of relaxation. It's pretty mellow even in the high season. It has an international villa so most people and businesses are foreigner friendly. You might want to some shopping in Casaoka before going there.
An interesting, small and easy to reach island in the inland sea. Good place to watch the sunset.
If you're riding the ferry from Kasaoka port, the info in Google is inaccurate (as of April 1 2023).
A lost island like paradise
I came here to trek to Shiraishi Island.
I parked my car in the free parking lot at Kamishima Outer Port and took a boat to Shiraishi Island.
The one-way fare for adults is 310 yen, and it takes about 15 minutes to get there.
Upon arrival, I used the clean restroom in the waiting area and headed first to the beach.
I started my trekking by turning down a side street from a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) at the edge of the beach.
The route was dotted with huge rocks, making it a sort of megalithic paradise.
Eating my lunch while taking in the spectacular views was exceptional.
I visited in the following order: Hatoiwa Rock ⇒ Takayama Observation Deck ⇒ Otamaiwa Rock ⇒ Yoroiwa Rock ⇒ Kairyuji Temple.
The total journey from the port took about 3 hours and covered 5 kilometers.
The commercially available ice cream I had at Amanohashidate Store was also delicious.
