Miyama Park is a vast natural park covering 200 hectares in central Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, developed in the 1950s along National Route 30. The park extends across elevations ranging from 50 to 180 meters and features five ponds surrounded by pine-covered hills. It contains 150,000 flowering trees representing over 300 species, including approximately 7,000 cherry trees, plum trees, camellias, azaleas, and maples, establishing it as one of Okayama Prefecture's premier natural parks.

The park's seasonal appeal draws visitors year-round. Its collection of 7,000 cherry blossom trees is the largest in Okayama Prefecture, making spring particularly popular for hanami celebrations. The wisteria tunnel, featuring five different varieties, blooms from late April to early May, while autumn brings vibrant displays in Hanagi-en and Momiji Valley, typically starting in late October. The park's ponds, particularly Akamatsuike Pond, attract migratory waterfowl including swans and various duck species from October through March.

Miyama Park includes several key features: a cycling road stretching 3.6 kilometers, dog runs with separate areas for large and small breeds, putt-putt golf facilities, and spacious playgrounds for children. Bicycle rentals are available from the Miyama Center House, with rates covering three-hour periods. The adjacent Miyama Park Roadside Station provides dining options, fresh local produce, seafood markets, and a bakery, while serving as a convenient rest area for travelers.

Within the park grounds sits the Miyama English Garden, designed around the concept of a traditional 20th-century British garden. Admission to the English Garden costs 200 yen for adults and 100 yen for children up to junior high school age, with free entry for preschool children and disabled guests. The garden features seasonally changing displays with roses particularly notable in June.

By train, take the JR Uno Line from Okayama Station to Bizen-Tai Station, approximately 45 minutes, then a 3-minute bus ride to the park. By bus, take a direct service from JR Okayama Station bound for Tamano, arriving at Miyamakōen Iriguchi stop in approximately 40 minutes. From Bizen-Tai Station, the park is a 20-minute walk. Entry to Miyama Park itself is free, with ample parking available for those traveling by car. The park remains open daily except Wednesdays and the year-end period from December 29 to January 3.

Traveler reviews

*5/5 stars* "Miyama Park is a serene oasis! 🌳🌸 I cycled here to soak in the breathtaking scenery while walking and jogging. The park's picturesque lakes, lush greenery, and vibrant wildlife (hello, koi, ducks, and swans! 🐟🦆🐥) make it a photographer's paradise. The playground is a dream spot for kids, and the entire park is a masterpiece waiting to be captured. Elderly folks strolling, kids playing... it's pure bliss! 🌞 The park is especially magical during sunrise. Plus, the nearby Miyama Market is a great bonus. Highly recommend!"

First of all, I wanna say this park is so huge. There are ponds surrounded by hills. The park area is also spacious. It can be reached only for about 1 hour from Okayama Station by bus. Things to do in this park: 1. Playing on the playground. 2. Ducks and swans feeding. There is a pond, near the playground in where you can give food to ducks and swans. But, you have to bring the ducks food on your own. I saw people brought a pack of bread, and feed the ducks with it. It is also a good place if you are interested in bird photography. 3. Tracking hills. If you enjoy walking and tracking the hills, this is a good place for you. I saw people in outdoor outfit enjoying the nature by tracking the trail. The trail is surrounded by dense canopy, giving the feeling of a forest. 4. Enjoying autumn leaves. I visited this park in autumn season. There are some spots with great autumn leaves scenes. I highly recommended this place for family trip, either with your child or your parents for enjoying nature together. Don't worry about toilets, you can find them easily. The toilet near the park area is equipped with a bidet washlet. Date of visit: 2022.11.22 Time needed for exploring: it's depends on your purpose (such as, taking photos, playing with kids, or tracking), but generally it's around 3 hours.

Visited here on March 30th when the cherry trees just began to blossom. Many local people came for picnicking. Free parking lot is provided. There are playgrounds not only for kids but also for pets(dogs). The farmers market and local food booths were also very nice.

A nice park with walking trails, duck pond, kids play area, mini golf, dog runs, a farmers market and fish market, a cafe, a restaurant, and more. Free admission to the park; the dog run and mini golf cost ¥500 each. Excellent place to see cherry blossoms in spring. Be sure to visit the English Garden (¥300 admission) if you like gardens >> this is beautiful at any time of the year. Accessible by car or public bus from JR Uno Station.
