What other travelers are saying about Sounkyo Visitor Center, Kamikawa
Largest stuffed brown bear we saw in Hokkaido. Very clean and nice center. The lady in the counter was very nice. There is a little be video you can control of the Kurodake trail.
Happening now in summer till 16 Aug. Very nice local fire dance show and fireworks at Sounkyo mountain street. Make the summer with different experience to be here.
This visitor centre is one of the nicest and most informative hiking visitor centres I’ve been too. They have a 3D model of the mountain with all the trails, which are graded for difficulty. There is various information around the visitor centre including the kind of fauna you may see and stuffed life size animals, together with their description. I believe you can hire equipment here if you need to. The bathrooms are really clean and modern too.
Very helpful English-speaking staff. Impressive facility with all the information needed before starting to hike in the area. A must!
Cloudy after earthquake, so less tourists on that day. Quite a unique experience. Only additional 600 yen to take the second lift where awesome view was well covered.
