Absolutely beautiful! I ended up sitting here for 2.5 hours and it was one of my highlights from Japan. Definitely check Sunset time beforehand and get there early because it does get a little packed around then. I took a taxi up because it’s a steep hike up and I walked down, hike down is also steep and dark if you leave after the sun sets, because it’s the countryside there aren’t street lights everywhere so have a small flashlight handy. I went in May and even though it was hot during the day it go pretty chilly at night so bring a jacket or cardigan. I would definitely come here again and see the sunrise next time!
Need a lot of effort to go here. Better if you take a car. If not, the hike up to the park is quite long and steep. I prefer took a cab up and walking down. I walk down right after sunset so it’s not too dark on the street. It’s a good decision because I could catch the blue hour on the way down and it was so pretty. This is the location of Itomori from anime Kimi no Nawa. Very beautiful during sunset.

We visited Tateishi Park on 13 November 2025 at 10:40 AM, and although the weather was cloudy, the view over Lake Suwa from the park was still beautiful and peaceful. The area is serene, with a wide panoramic view of the lake, mountains, and Suwa city.
Tateishi Park is also famous among fans of the movie “Your Name (君の名は)”, as its scenery closely resembles the iconic lake view from the film. Even on a cloudy day, the atmosphere feels magical and nostalgic.
The 展望テラス (Observation Terrace) offers the best viewpoint — spacious, clean, and perfect for photography. The walk from the parking lot is short and easy, making it accessible for most visitors. Nearby, there is also a washroom and a vending machine, which is very convenient for travellers.
The park is well-maintained with clear signboards guiding you to each viewing area. Morning visits tend to be quiet, allowing you to enjoy the scenery without crowds.
Overall, Tateishi Park is a peaceful and scenic spot, great for photography, sightseeing, and enjoying Suwa’s natural beauty.

I went to this place on 2026/05/09 to watch the sunset. But there was a queue of cars about 3km away. The roads are very narrow. Parking spaces are limited. I had to pay 2000 yen to park that day, but I had to wait in line for a long time. But the view was very beautiful. There were a lot of people.
Visited on a public holiday to see the autumn leaves (紅葉). The parking lot was almost full, and waiting on the road might bother other drivers, so it’s better to avoid that. There’s a beautiful panoramic view of Suwa City and the lake from here.
