What other travelers are saying about Tokyo Cruise Asakusa Pier
Cruising Tokyo in a Spaceship: The Hotaluna (or Himiko) Water Bus to Odaiba
Taking the futuristic water bus from Asakusa Pier to Odaiba Seaside Park was a major highlight of our Tokyo trip, and an amazing way to spend the day with our boys (aged 7 and 9). We chose this route specifically to experience something unique, and it absolutely delivered!
A Stress-Free, Futuristic Start
I highly recommend booking this trip. We secured our reservations the night before, and it paid off immediately—we were among the first allowed to board the boat. This was a huge plus, especially with the kids.
The boat itself was amazing and looked incredibly futuristic—it genuinely looked more like a spaceship gliding on the water. The boys were obsessed! We started the journey inside, enjoying the sleek, comfortable interior with its tinted glass windows.
Tokyo's Skyline from the Water
The best part of the journey came a little later when the crew opened the top deck (a feature specific to the Hotaluna boat design)! Being able to view and enjoy the journey from the outside was incredible. The views of Tokyo from the water were amazing, offering a completely different perspective of the landscape.
We passed under numerous unique bridges and saw iconic landmarks, including the towering Tokyo Skytree from a distance, the financial buildings of the central districts, and, most spectacularly, cruising directly under the colourful Rainbow Bridge as we approached Odaiba. It was truly the best way to see the city sprawl.
Refreshments and Smooth Sailing
Inside the boat, you could buy snacks and drinks, which was perfect for the mid-day trip. The strawberry lemonade was very nice and refreshing—a little treat that made the journey even better.
Overall, the futuristic river cruise was really worth it and provided a relaxing, yet thrilling, and different way to see Tokyo. It turned simple transportation into a magical part of our holiday adventure!
took it from asakusa to odaiba. enjoyable if the weather is sunny. the ships are dated. the announcements or commentary is only in japanese and get annoyingly loud. if you study and mark the spots before traveling it becomes enjoyable. we lucked out on the weather and they let us go to the open 2nd deck towards the end to get with a much better view of the rainbow bridge and odaiba area.
It’s not open for 24 hours. The pier will be opened close to the first board time. The toilet located on the lowest floor facing outside, so it’s basically outside the building. You can buy the ticket online or walk in, but most of the tickets are sold online, anyway they will prioritize visitor with online ticket to enter the cruise first. If you’re with baby stroller, you need to fold the stroller to enter the space cruise.
For the cruise experience, it was amazing. It is a new experience to travel from city center to Tokyo Bay using transportation other than trains. The cruise deck will be opened for public in the middle of sailing, so visitors can get a more memorable experience.
I did this cruise on the 30th Nov 2024 at 3.30pm from Asakusa pier. Ticket bought from the cruise counter in the morning. The tour took almost an hour along Sumida river. Seeing the panoramic view of Tokyo city skylines was an amazing experience. The sunset rays make the tour even more captivating as we approach Odaiba. It's wise to dress appropriately because the winds on the open deck of the cruise are really cold. You can experience the sights both inside the boat and on the open deck.
I took the water bus from Hinode Pier to Asakusa and back. On my trip from Hinode Pier there was hardly anyone on board and we were on an older boat which was wonderful as there was full open air viewing available. My return trip was busier but just as spectacular. There are some very futuristic looking boats running the route. I thoroughly recommend a trip on the river.
