Tokyu Plaza Shibuya

3.9 (1313)Shopping MallPoint Of InterestEstablishment

Tokyu Plaza Shibuya is a contemporary shopping and dining complex located in the heart of Tokyo's vibrant Shibuya district. Opened in 2019, this 18-story building replaced the original Tokyu Plaza that had stood since 1965, marking a significant redevelopment in one of Tokyo's busiest commercial areas. The complex was designed by architect Hiroshi Nakamura and represents a modern interpretation of urban retail space that blends seamlessly with Shibuya's dynamic streetscape.

The building's most distinctive feature is its iconic rooftop space, Shibuya Sky, which sits approximately 47 meters above ground level. This open-air observation deck provides panoramic views across Tokyo, including sightlines to landmarks such as Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree, and Mount Fuji on clear days. The rooftop design incorporates greenery and public seating areas, creating an urban oasis amid the surrounding concrete jungle. The building's exterior features a mirrored façade that reflects the constantly changing energy of Shibuya below.

Visitors can explore approximately 100 shops and restaurants spread across multiple floors, ranging from international fashion brands to Japanese specialty stores and diverse dining options showcasing both local and international cuisine. The complex emphasizes experiential retail and cultural engagement, with regular pop-up installations and exhibitions that showcase contemporary Japanese design and culture. The building maintains strong connections to Japanese craftsmanship while embracing global trends, making it representative of Tokyo's position as both a guardian of tradition and a hub of innovation.

Tokyu Plaza Shibuya is located directly adjacent to JR Shibuya Station and connected to the Shibuya Station complex, making it immediately accessible via the JR Yamanote Line, Tokyo Metro Ginza, Hanzomon, and Fukutoshin Lines, as well as the Tokyu Toyoko and Den-en-toshi Lines and Keio Inokashira Line. The building entrance is approximately 1 minute walk from the Hachiko Exit of Shibuya Station. Entry to the shopping floors is free, while access to Shibuya Sky requires a paid ticket, with prices typically around ¥2,000-¥2,500 for adults and discounted rates for children and seniors.

Visiting Tokyo for the first time is a very nice experience. It is a very busy city, mixes the ultramodern and the traditional, great opportunities to eat, shop, and explore. Shibuya Plaza is a casual, busy and colourful shopping place.
The Plaza is certainly a nice place for younger people who know where to look at in order to find something. It is, by the way, not easy to find more special things that you can bring someone for a gift. It certainly benefits from its location in front of the crossroads which is very well known from "Too Fast - too furious". People who visit Shibuya must be aware that it is very crowdy, more so when the sun goes down. Despite such a big crowd of people, Shibuya is an extremely clean place.

Nice views of Shibuya crossing and is quite empty compared to the streets. Everyone is in the restaurants and no one is walking around shopping in the plaza.
Plenty of shopping possibilities and other financial and travel services Several floors dedicated to food Very near the JR station
