What other travelers are saying about Tsunoshima Ohashi Bridge
This spot has been featured in the book “Places to Visit Before You Die: World’s Most Spectacular Views,” so it was somewhere I had been curious about for a long time and finally decided to visit.
The photos shown in the book were very impressive and made me want to see the scenery in person.
However, on the day I visited, the sky was cloudy, and the view felt quite different from what I had seen in the photos.
The scenery itself is not bad, but it is clearly a place where the impression changes greatly depending on the weather.
If it had been a sunny day, my evaluation would likely have been different.
To truly experience the charm of this place, visiting on a clear day seems essential.
If the conditions are right, I can understand why it was featured in the book.
While I was able to get a sense of the atmosphere this time, it is a place I would like to revisit under better weather conditions.
By car via Route 191 from Shimonoseki takes approximately 50 minutes. Public buses run from Takibe Station on the JR San'in Main Line, but services are infrequent.
Tsunoshima Lighthouse (built 1876) has an observation deck. Tsuno Bay Beach offers swimming and white coral sand. Local restaurants serve fresh seafood.
Year-round access is available. Clear weather provides the best visibility and photography conditions. The mainland-side observation point offers the optimal angle for photographs.
Yes. The bridge has pedestrian walkways on both sides, allowing visitors to walk or cycle across. However, strong winds are common due to the exposed coastal location, so caution is advised.
The mainland side has a rest area with parking and viewing platforms. Tsunoshima Island has several small restaurants and cafes, primarily serving seafood. A convenience store is located near the bridge entrance on the island side.

🚗 Free to visit (walk or drive any time)
A beautiful bridge with amazing ocean views.
Worth visiting to enjoy the scenery, take photos, and experience one of Japan’s best coastal drives.😍
It’s beautiful and felt very like you’re in Okinawa, but it’s a bit overrated. Nothing much near by so it’s not necessarily detour for this one, if you’re driving along then it’s ok to come by and make a stop for some photos. Parking available on both ends of the bridge.
In the city, everything is available —
stores, deliveries, constant noise and endless information.
But when you arrive here, something unusual happens.
At first it feels like there is nothing.
No traffic, no crowds, no city lights.
Then slowly, your senses begin to return.
You start hearing the wind, the waves, and the quiet around you.
And in that moment, you realize:
silence is not empty — it is something you can hold.
Absolutely beautiful sea and a great experience crossing Tsunoshima Bridge! This place is approximately over 2 hours drive from the city of Fukuoka.
The color of the blue sea and its surrounding landscape is mesmerizing. The weather was really sunny during the visit and the view was exactly like the photos taken. No editing at all on the photograph.
