Yakurai Garden is a 15-hectare hillside flower park located in Kami Town, Miyagi Prefecture, in the Tohoku region of northern Japan. Established in 1989, the garden was developed as part of a regional revitalization project to showcase seasonal flowers across the rolling terrain of the Ou Mountains. The site takes advantage of its elevated position at approximately 500 meters above sea level, offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and distant mountain ranges.

The garden's primary attraction is its extensive seasonal flower displays that transform the landscape throughout the year. Spring brings 500,000 tulips and daffodils, while summer features cosmos fields that cover the hillsides in pink and white blooms. The park is particularly renowned for its 2 million cosmos flowers that bloom from late August through October, creating one of the largest cosmos displays in the Tohoku region. A 200-meter windmill stands as the garden's iconic landmark, surrounded by European-style flower beds that complement the pastoral setting.

Visitors can explore walking paths that wind through different garden zones, each dedicated to specific flower varieties and themes. The gentle slopes make the garden accessible for most fitness levels, though some steeper sections require moderate effort. Photography opportunities are abundant, with designated viewpoints offering compositions that frame the flowers against mountain backdrops.

Admission fees vary by season, with higher rates during peak bloom periods in spring and autumn, typically ranging from ¥700 to ¥1,000 for adults. Parking facilities accommodate 1,000 vehicles free of charge. The garden also includes a restaurant serving local cuisine and a shop selling regional products and flower-related souvenirs.

Access to Yakurai Garden requires private transportation, as public transport options are limited. The garden is located approximately 50 kilometers northwest of Sendai, the prefectural capital, requiring about one hour by car via the Tohoku Expressway and Route 457. From Furukawa Station on the Tohoku Shinkansen line, the drive takes roughly 40 minutes.

It's the perfect place for kids to release stress on extremely hot or stormy days! We use it as a place for our kids to let off steam on long drive days. It's not cheap, but it's great to have the option of an indoor pool that's not affected by the weather. The pool is very satisfying, but the hot springs are just indoor and outdoor, there's no sauna or cold bath, and it's not a very special feature. By the way, you can only use the hot springs, but the rule is that you can't just use the pool. It's great that the facility has a free space where you can take a nap. As I mentioned in the colors, it's a very valuable facility overall!

In the summer, there is a set fee for both the pool and the hot spring. The fee is a little high, but it's helpful because you can come early in the morning and not have to wait in line. It's also nice that there are both indoor and outdoor lazy rivers! Snacks are also sold, so you can eat in your swimsuit. However, I do think there are far fewer lifeguards here than at other pools. I wonder if it'll be okay if something happens... There are indoor and outdoor baths, and the open-air bath in particular was very pleasant with its open feeling! It's not very large, so if you go around 3pm it will be extremely crowded. It's a great pool where you can enjoy the pool and then freshen up in the hot spring before heading home♪
