📍 Yume no Tsuribashi Suspension Bridge – Sumatakyo, Shizuoka, Japan 🇯🇵
We visited on 16 November 2025, and the scenery was absolutely breathtaking — turquoise water 💙, a deep valley wrapped in autumn colours 🍁, and a beautifully swaying suspension bridge that made the experience unforgettable.
Before reaching the village entrance, there is an information booth. Registration is required only for hikers entering the longer trails.
If you’re just visiting the village, no registration is needed.
From the village, it’s about a 30-minute walk to the entrance gate of Yume no Tsuribashi. At the gate, you pay 500 yen per person at the counter 🎫. We waited around 40 minutes before our turn to cross the dream bridge. Security staff will control the number of people crossing for safety.
The suspension bridge is one-way only, so once you cross, you must follow the designated trail. This includes a climb of 304 staircases up the hillside. After the climb, there is a small observation deck where you can enjoy an elevated view of the stunning turquoise lake.
From the observation deck, continue along the trail and head toward Hiryu Bridge (飛龍橋) to complete the loop. The path eventually leads you back down to the village, making it a full circular route — a very enjoyable and scenic hike.
Travel tips:
• Arrive early to avoid peak crowding.
• A good plan is to arrive morning till 1 PM, walk, queue, cross, then have lunch after, before the sunlight fades.
• Crossing around 3 PM offers the best lighting as the sun hits the water beautifully without being blocked by valley cliffs. And the sunlight fades across the lake, and this softer light actually turns the water into a richer, deeper turquoise color, making the scenery even more magical.
The entire trail is peaceful, refreshing, and especially beautiful in autumn, when the crisp air and colours make the whole valley feel magical.
A truly memorable and unique nature spot in Shizuoka — perfect for scenic lovers, hikers, and photography enthusiasts. 🙌✨
This location is beautiful, nestled in a lush gorge. The water color is unique, though it can also be found in other parts of Japan.
Driving in this area is not easy. The road is narrow in spots, only wide enough for one car to pass, and quite winding. Because it’s not an easy drive, I don’t recommend coming here just for Instagram’s sake.
Instead, I suggest visiting the nearby spots as well, such as Okuoikojo and Lake Iwaka, to name some.
The entrance fee for the bridge is ¥500, and it’s about a 25-minute walk from the gate to the bridge. The bridge becomes one-way only during busy periods, but regardless, I recommend doing the full loop hike.
The town is cute, with some onsen options for day bathing or an overnight stay. There’s no free parking in town; the closest parking lots to the bridge gate cost ¥500 (cash only).
This is not the only suspension bridge on the Ōi River, but there are many others!
I arrived late in the day, but it was still beautiful and very windy; I don't know if that's because it was winter. I was a little sad that I couldn't see the blue of the lake, perhaps because it was already late afternoon, close to closing time for visitors.
Although the way down to and the stairs to come back from the bridge was steep and tough, it's worth it. 500yen for the entrance fee to preserve the environment there.
A very nice looking bridge. Be careful if you want to go in the evening. The last entrance for the bridge is much earlier than 5 pm we went there at 4 pm and it was already too late. So we are able to go around to the other metal bridge.
The entrance fee is 500 Yen.
