1 Day Tour from Kanazawa: Kurobe Gorge and Unazuki Onsen

Meet your guide outside the Shinkansen ticket gates, in front of the information center marked by three large sumo wrestler figures. Look for a Snow Monkey Resorts tour tag. Please be at the meeting point by 08:00 as the tour departs on time. Transport to Unazuki Onsen is by private bus or public transport, depending on availability, at no additional cost to guests.

Arrive at Unazuki Onsen Station and begin a short walk through the town to viewpoints overlooking the valley, one of the red bridges, and the gorge entrance. The town was established as an onsen resort approximately 100 years ago during the Taisho period, and its architecture reflects the Western-Japanese fusion style of that era. The walk takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes and includes stops at observation decks with views of the trolley train crossing the bridge.

Board the trolley train at Unazuki Onsen Station for a ride into the gorge. The train currently runs on a shortened route to Nekomata Station due to ongoing earthquake repairs. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes in total, including one stop where guests can disembark briefly to take photos.

Return to Unazuki Onsen for lunch. Your guide will recommend nearby restaurants and food options in and around the station area. A convenience store is available in town for guests with specific dietary requirements. After lunch, guests can use one of the town's covered onsen foot baths and visit the Buddha statue, where onsen water is poured over the area of the body one wishes to have healed.

Arrive at the Shomyo Falls parking area and begin the 30-minute hiking trail to the base of the falls. Shomyo Falls drops 350 meters and is the tallest waterfall in Japan. The falls were formed by volcanic activity and flow in four distinct drops, a sound that ancient pilgrims compared to monks chanting scripture. In spring and early summer, snowmelt from the mountain peaks pushes the waterfall to its highest volume and also forms the secondary Hannoki Falls directly opposite. 

Arrive back at Kanazawa Station, where the tour concludes. Your guide will be available to assist with any onward travel questions.
