Where do we have lunch?

Lunch is not included. After the Okunoin visit you get 60 minutes of free time from 12:30 to buy and eat your own meal, and then a short bus ride takes you on to Kongobuji Temple.

How do we get around Koyasan?

The tour combines walking with local buses. A bus of around 20 minutes takes you from Koyasan Station to Okunoin and another of about 5 minutes on to Kongobuji. From there you walk about 5 minutes to Danjo Garan and 8 minutes to Daimon Gate, and a 10-minute bus ride returns you to the station. Bus fares are included.

Why is Okunoin the longest stop?

Okunoin is the site of Kobo Daishi's mausoleum and the most sacred place on the mountain, so the tour gives it around 120 minutes. It is also the start and end point of the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, which makes it an important stop for pilgrims as well as sightseers.

What will I see at Danjo Garan?

Danjo Garan is the temple complex Kobo Daishi began building when he founded Koyasan, and your 45 minutes there include the Konpon Daito pagoda. Kongobuji, the head temple of Shingon Buddhism, is just a 5-minute walk away and is visited right before it.

This is a private tour, so only your group joins your guide.
Send us any requests for the itinerary before your tour date.
On the day, your guide can help you change the schedule.
You can skip a planned stop or swap it for another place.
Admission for any stop you add is paid on the spot, plus any extra transport.
Infants under 2 years old can join but must sit on a parent's lap.
The tour rides Nankai Rinkan local buses, and seats are not reserved.
Please arrive on time at the meeting point in front of Koyasan Station.
Weekends, holidays, and event days can bring heavy crowds on the mountain.
Traffic or congestion may shorten visits or change the schedule at short notice.
The tour does not run during natural disasters such as typhoons.
Please look after your own valuables throughout the tour.
