Tohoku is known for its scenic beauty, hot springs, festivals, and historical sites. Some notable attractions include the Hirosaki Castle in Aomori, known for its beautiful cherry blossoms; Matsushima Bay in Miyagi, celebrated for its picturesque islands; and the Zao Onsen ski and hot spring resort in Yamagata. The region is also famous for its vibrant festivals like the Aomori Nebuta Festival and the Sendai Tanabata Festival.

Tohoku offers distinct experiences throughout the year. Spring (April-May) is ideal for cherry blossom viewing, summer (June-August) is perfect for festivals and outdoor activities, autumn (September-November) provides stunning fall foliage, and winter (December-February) is great for skiing and snowboarding.

While the Northern Lights are primarily seen in polar regions, Tohoku offers a natural phenomenon called "Aurora-like Arcs" or "Steve," which can occasionally be observed. For the best chance to witness this, visit during cold, clear winter nights, especially in areas with little light pollution.

Tohoku offers a rich culinary scene, including fresh seafood, high-quality rice, and unique local dishes. Specialties include "Gyutan" (grilled beef tongue) in Sendai, "Jappa-jiru" (fisherman's soup) in Aomori, and "Kiritanpo" (mashed rice sticks) in Akita. The region is also known for its sake production.
