The tour covers the historical, political, and military context behind the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. It examines the circumstances that led to the decision, the immediate aftermath, and Hiroshima's development as a center of nuclear disarmament advocacy. The approach is factual with open discussion encouraged throughout.
The content covers the atomic bombing and its human consequences. Parents should assess whether the subject matter is appropriate for younger children. The walking route is easy and accessible.
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Water and snacks are not included so guests are advised to bring their own, particularly in warmer months.
Thomas was our guide, a Dutch man with perfect English, and a deep understanding of the history leading up to World War II’s worst tragedy.
His sense of humor helped lighten the day when that was appropriate. In the more somber sections of our tour, he helped us understand the human impact of a bomb that eventually killed 2/3 of Hiroshima’s population. We’re history buffs and have read books and watched films on the subject, yet we still learned so much that we did not know. He grounded his tour in solid research and history. He was always able to answer more detailed questions from our six-person group.

Humbling experience
Kevin was an absolutely outstanding tour guide! We joined his 3-hour walking tour of Hiroshima Peace Park and the castle, and it was truly one of the best tours I’ve ever experienced.
His knowledge was exceptional, and the way he shared the history kept everyone completely engaged from start to finish. What really stood out was how he made the tour emotional and interactive—it wasn’t just informative, it was deeply moving and memorable.
Kevin has a fantastic ability to connect with his group and bring history to life in a respectful and meaningful way. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Hiroshima.
