Samurai-style Tea Ceremony

Preguntas frecuentes

The tea ceremony for samurai was not only a ritualistic practice of preparing and drinking green tea but also a discipline that cultivated presence, focus, and mindfulness. It was an integral part of their cultural and spiritual lives, emphasizing simplicity, purity, and tranquility — principles highly regarded in samurai philosophy. The ceremony was also a way for samurai to forge and demonstrate social bonds, host guests, and establish a reputation for sophistication and honor.

Samurai hosted tea ceremonies to showcase cultural sophistication and etiquette, strengthen social bonds, discuss important matters in a serene environment, and practice Zen principles vital for mental clarity and discipline.

The tea room is a haven of tranquility and cultural significance. It typically features tatami mats, where guests are seated, hanging scrolls that add an artistic touch, and an incense burner that enhances the ambiance. The careful arrangement of these elements creates an environment ideal for reflection and mindfulness.

While there is no strict dress code, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing. You may be seated on tatami mats, so it's advisable to wear socks for your comfort. The emphasis is on creating a relaxed and contemplative atmosphere.

It's best to request permission before taking photographs or videos during the ceremony. While capturing the moment can be meaningful, there may be specific points in the ritual when it's considered inappropriate to do so. Respecting the ceremony and the privacy of fellow guests is paramount.
