Visited the Abukuma Do (Abukuma Caves/Caverns) on a weekday in June . It wasn't too crowded or busy with visitors, and the timing was perfect because it was a great way to cool off from the warmth and humidity outside. This is a fascinating walk through some great work that Mother Nature conjures up over centuries and millenia - it's oddly beautiful and kind of eerie at the same time. A nominal admission fee gets you inside, and for an optional 300 yen per person, you can venture into deeper sections of the caves that require you to crouch, scamper and fit through some very narrow spaces of the caves. High-heeled shoes are not recommended, and it might be a good idea to bring a light pullover or something with long sleeves because it can feel very cold/clammy whilst inside the cave. Highly recommended if you're into stalagmites and stalagtites (forgot which is which), and subterranean beauty that - obviously - cannot be appreciated from the ground level.
This cave experience was top-notch and quite spectacular. There was signage in English. The staff were extremely helpful. We left a bag in the taxi. The staff called the taxi driver to fetch us. He brought our bag.
Such an interesting experience. The path was paved and well-maintained. It was well-lit, too. The limestone formations were amazing.
i highly recommend this place. we went ther on yearend vacation still not crowded at all. cave history is so amazing. and walking though it was very exciting. there are some path which is bit complex than others and one can choose which path they want to take. we went with very young baby(one is 2years old and another is 7months). it is not imposible to visit here with baby but quite tough on some point. but my older daughter really enjoyed.
