Asaka High School is one of the most prestigious ones in Fukushima, and I'm an alumnus of this school. It's pretty touching and moving for me to visit here. This time, I found Asaka Junior High is integrated into this campus.
A museum that tells the history of the modernization of new industries and the development of the Asaka region. (Modern Industrial Heritage) *During the Meiji era, it was the first national project, drawing water from Lake Inawashiro to create fertile land, and the Asaka development built what is now Koriyama. Nearby, there are government residences and settler houses where you can learn about the history of the Asaka development. 🏛️ (🇯🇵 Japan Heritage site and a nationally important cultural property), it was damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake and is currently under construction, scheduled to open in two years. 🗓️
The majestic appearance of the building, clad in clapboard siding, and the Western-style architecture of the Meiji period are truly impressive. There are also extensive exhibits, including a model of the Asaka Canal and panel displays. It's directly accessible by bus from Koriyama Station.
We stopped by on a family trip.
The beautifully preserved building and exhibits inside are very easy to see, and there are still objects and documents from the time still left, so I thought it was very well maintained.
There weren't many people and it felt quiet, but that meant I could take my time looking around.
