Gembikei Gorge (厳美渓) is a stunning natural gorge known for its crystal-clear river, dramatic rock formations, and peaceful forest surroundings. The scenery changes beautifully with the seasons, especially in autumn when the foliage turns vibrant red and orange. A unique highlight is the “flying dango” service, where snacks are sent across the river in a basket using a rope system. It’s a relaxing, scenic spot perfect for photography and slow travel in northern Japan.
Underrated to say the least. The experience was unique. The view was decent, but you can sense the nature and peacefulness through every part of your body. In addition, don't miss the Pokemon.
Beautiful gorge. Try to explore outside of where the mochi delivery area is. It's very quiet and beautiful. The mochi delivery was entertaining. We did not try.
Lovely views but a rather short loop over the two bridges. Nice places to sit in the park else a trip from the city will be quick.
The more energetic and masculine visit compared with the nearby Geibikei gorge. While the crowded area with where danggo is delivered via a basket was nice, it’s also worth taking a short walk around the area with less people. Found a hut at the other side of the bridge with a clear view of the gorge and few ppl in the area (though non-slip shoes are advised as getting to the hut involved some climbing down slippery steps - see map picture for directions).
