What other travelers are saying about Genkai Ryokan, Fukuoka
This was our first stay at a traditional Japanese ryokan, and even though we only speak a little Japanese, the staff were so kind, accommodating, and able to communicate with us in English. They really made us feel welcome!
Genki Ryokan is in such a great spot right by the coast. The drive there was super scenic, and the whole area felt really peaceful. The rooms are newly built, beautifully designed, and honestly felt so luxurious. They’ve thought of everything—there were English print-out instructions, a multi-device charger, a kettle with different types of tea and coffee and a huge selection of really lovely toiletries and amenities.
Dinner was such a highlight! We had an amazing set menu with a mix of authentic and local Japanese dishes (I’ve shared some photos!). Everything was so fresh and beautifully presented. My husband also loved the sento—he said it was such a cool and relaxing experience. Breakfast was also incredible!
If you're exploring the coast, we loved our stay at Genki Ryokan and would love to return! ☺️

Thank you so much for an enjoyable stay, it was so peaceful, we slept so well. Thank you for taking us to the train station, we wouldn't have made it without you! We hope to visit again in the future.
We stayed in the main building.
The guest rooms are divided into the main building and a detached building. The main building has an ocean view (the indoor bath has been renovated), while the detached building has an open-air bath. The public bath is closer from the detached building. None of the rooms are hot springs. The main building is better in winter. The detached building has an outdoor shower, so it seems cold...
I only know about the rooms in the main building, but they were spacious enough for three people with room to spare. The TV was a little small, I think. lol. There were enough amenities for everyone, and even hand towels! That's great for a woman!
I'm sure some people will appreciate the three bottles of water and the charger in the refrigerator!
Meals were served in the main building, and on our first night we had a luxurious meal of simmered Spanish mackerel and other dishes, as well as steak. On our second night, we had a simmered wild sea bream and other dishes.
The portion of rice on our first night was so large that we had to have it brought to our room. Apologies for the inconvenience! 💦 Thank you!
The nearby community center bar offers all-you-can-drink non-alcoholic drinks at any time (milk, coffee milk, fruit au lait). There's also an all-you-can-drink alcohol option for 30 minutes around 9pm, but before that, you can enjoy a festival-like atmosphere in the alley!
This is the perfect place for those who want to relax after a day in the city. The ocean was nearby and had a beautiful view from both the room and the restaurant!
If you're going in the winter, make sure to have dinner after 6pm! The sunset was beautiful!
It's a place I'd love to visit again.
Thank you!!
We stayed with our family.
As it was a weekday, there were few guests and we were able to relax with the hot springs all to ourselves.
The meals were mainly fish, and we enjoyed a set course menu of sashimi, simmered fish, grilled fish, chawanmushi, sushi, and more.
Each dish was explained carefully and the service was very attentive and great.
They had Asahi draft beer, Asahi and Kirin bottled beer, one type each of rice, barley, and sweet potato shochu, about 10 types of sake, and a large selection of wine.
Our room was in the annex with an ocean view, an open-air bath, and a stylish space with a wood motif.
Please note that only dinner and breakfast are served, so you will need to bring your own drinks and food.
There are no activities outside the ryokan, so it is recommended for those looking for a truly relaxing stay.
