4.1 (1841)Botanical GardenTourist AttractionPoint Of InterestEstablishment

Hakone Botanical Garden of Wetlands is a vibrant haven nestled in the highlands of Hakone, dedicated to the rich diversity of Japan’s wetland ecosystems. Spanning over 30,000 square meters, this botanical wonderland is home to an astonishing array of over 1,700 plant species, each thriving in meticulously recreated habitats that reflect Japan’s diverse natural landscapes.

As you wander through the garden, you're greeted by a tapestry of lush marshes, serene ponds, and verdant meadows, each teeming with life. The boardwalk trails weave through these varied environments, offering an up-close view of everything from delicate orchids and rare bog plants to towering grasses and colorful aquatic blooms.

Spring and summer transform the garden into a riot of colors and textures, with blooming irises, vibrant lilies, and the soft sway of cotton grass. Autumn brings a shift to warm hues as the foliage turns, adding a golden glow to the scenery. Even in winter, the garden holds a quiet charm, with frost-kissed plants and serene, reflective waters.

The garden is more than just a visual feast; it's a living classroom. Informative displays and guided tours shed light on the crucial role wetlands play in supporting biodiversity and maintaining ecological balance. Visitors can also explore the charming wetland museum, which delves into the history and science behind these vital ecosystems.

Beautiful and relaxing walk in nature. Feels like being in Princess Mononoke in real life. We saw lots of fish in the water. We loved this.

If you’re into plants or nature person, then recommend! Depending on the season, there are different flowers blooming. They have few carnival plants, which was cool. Entrance 700 yen.

Went during light shower rain but that made it even better! Staff were kind, ticket buying process was easy, you can park in the car park nearby for free. Not many flowers when I went, but you see many crawdads, a carnivorous plants section, and can walk around 7 more sections of different themes(swamp, wetlands etc). There is a little shop there too for cute bits and bobs.
