What other travelers are saying about Sengokuhara Pampas Grass Fields
Visited close to autumn this year, and it was absolutely stunning. The golden pampas grass swaying in the cold, windy breeze, especially near sunset, created a breathtaking and picturesque view. The warm glow of the setting sun made the scene even more magical. It's free to visit and easy to access, making it a must-see spot. Despite the chill, the scenery was completely worth it – a serene escape into nature! Highly recommend for anyone traveling to Hakone in autumn.
Free, easy to locate (right across Lawson), and you might run into cute dog.
Wear long pants and clothes; do NOT wear sandal/flippers/heels (it’s a layer of small pointy rock). You don’t really have to go all the way up; the grass is too tall to get a better view (unless you have a selfie stick)
There's just one long path winding through the field, making it an easy, immersive experience.
The area can get quite crowded, so arriving early is recommended for a more peaceful experience.
Overall, it is a wonderful spot for anyone who loves nature or photography!
The Sengokuhara Pampas Grass Field is designated as a Special Protection Area in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. It offers stunning views of pampas grass from September to November.
Covering an area of 22.7 hectares, the fields are filled with pampas grass that grows to a height of about 2 meters.
A 700-meter walking trail has been created through the center of the fields. This straight walking trail from the entrance is crowded with tourists.
The fields, spreading along the base of Mt. Daigatake slopes, also offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains as you walk.
Strongly recommend to come during sunset. There’s nice hues and many good spots to take a photo! Beware of the crowd.
I went around 4.05pm (40mins before sunset) and it was perfect timing for us to take good photos.
