What other travelers are saying about Hakusan Shrine, Niigata
A very pretty shrine, on the smaller side (at least if you, like me, come from Tokyo). Very quiet, but with fascinating history and tradition. There is a dragon well that one can pray to (which protects from a gate to hell, if I understood the sign right?) as well as various other things. As someone born in the year of the snake, I very much enjoyed that their goshuin and ema both heavily featured snakes.
They also amusingly seem to have a cooperation with Hello Kitty, as they have Goshuin books, ema and even an ema wall with Hello Kitty on them.
Sadly was under renovation when I was there, but that likely means it will be even more splendid once they're done.
No. Entry to the shrine and Hakusan Park is free. Donations are optional, and fees apply only for purchasing omamori amulets or other shrine items.
You can make prayers and offerings, purchase omamori amulets, collect goshuin stamps, view the 1663 main hall, and walk through Hakusan Park to see seasonal cherry blossoms and autumn foliage.
Spring for cherry blossoms, July for the Hakusan Park Summer Festival, or autumn for foliage. The shrine is open daily year-round.
Yes. Visitors can receive goshuin stamp impressions in their shrine books at Hakusan Shrine during regular operating hours.
I briefly stopped by this shrine complex.
It is very large and beautiful, with many visitors and a pleasant atmosphere. Next time, I would love to stay longer.
A shrine with a rich history. Love the architectural aspect of the shrine. Always peaceful and soothing whenever the family visit shrines in japan. There was a very nice garden within the vicinity of the shrine as well. It was a pity that it was raining while we visited. Parking facilities are available.
Arrived here when the sun was setting and hence probably didn't get the best shots. Has what you'd expect from a shrine. Spots to offer prayers buying charms and such. Felt smaller than other shrines I've visited. It is right beside the arts theater so probably shares some real estate with the other buildings in the area.
The shrine is very well-maintained and when we went there, their is am ongoing renovation. It was weekdays that time so people were not many. Autumn colours are so pretty that makes the ambiance of the shrine more solemn and peaceful.
