Beautiful area of Northeast Japan, with scenic mountains and also low areas that are calming and a great getaway, only two hours away from bustling Tokyo.
Myoko village is a pretty little place with a few cafes and restaurants. Easy access to ski slopes - walking distance to Akakura Onsen lifts and not too far to Akakura Kanko ( walk or shuttle).
This myoko kogen is a great set of ski resorts. The snow was metres deep, the bars and food shops are good

Myoko Ski Resort, often referred to in the context of the larger Myoko Kogen area, comprises several ski areas, including Myoko Suginohara, Ikenotaira Onsen, and Akakura (which itself includes Akakura Kanko and Akakura Onsen). Collectively, Myoko Kogen offers around 60 kilometers (over 37 miles) of ski runs, with varied terrain suitable for all levels of skiers and snowboarders.
Myoko Kogen's popularity has been rising, yet it generally maintains a less crowded atmosphere compared to some of Japan's more renowned resorts like Niseko or Hakuba. Early mornings and weekdays usually offer more solitude on the slopes.

To travel from Kyoto to Myoko Kogen, you can take a shinkansen (bullet train) from Kyoto Station to Nagano Station. From Nagano, you can transfer to a local train to Myoko Kogen Station, typically on the Shinano Railway. The entire journey may take around 4 to 5 hours depending on connection times. Alternatively, you can drive, which also takes about 4 to 5 hours depending on traffic and weather conditions.
The closest international airport to Myoko Kogen is Niigata Airport. It's about 160 kilometers away and offers both domestic and international flights. Another option is Tokyo's Narita or Haneda airports, which, while further away, provide more extensive international connectivity.
