What other travelers are saying about Higashiyama Walking Course
relaxing and scenic walk up through small paths. temples, shrines, cemeteries, beautiful foliage and views of the town. this is part of a larger walk higashiyama which skirts the town and also brings you up to the castle ruins. if taken at a casual pace it is not too difficult.
A promenade around a small hill overlooking the city. It passes through various temples, shrines and graveyards. And the view of the city from above was amazing.
Do be warned, once you get past the temples, a good part of the path was extremely narrow, though, so beware of cars.
Nice stroll in a serene landscape with plenty of temples and shrines. We came here after having visited Kyoto, where the temples were much larger and impressive, but still, this place is worth a visit.
5km walking trail that winds through a slew of temples, quaint residential neighborhoods, and ending in a natural forest reserve with great views over Takayama before heading back into the old town. Great day out amidst serene scenes. A word of warning: the signage posted all along the trail is sometimes confusing, often showing multiple directions. You’ll eventually work out that it shows that the trail goes both ways, as well as the occasional dead-end sight which requires you to turn back in order to rejoin the main walking route; it’s not always intuitive. The trail often brings you right through the grounds of various temples. We snapped a picture of the initial map and used that to navigate.
Beautiful and peaceful walk through 12 different temples and shrines. The temples are all unique. There is a nice public bathroom halfway through the walk and another towards the end. Highly recommend this! We went on a Friday and had most of the temples all to ourselves. This walk is another reason why Hida Takayama is oozing with charm 🤍✨
