Himeji City Museum of Art

The Himeji City Museum of Art opened in 1983 and stands as one of the most architecturally distinctive cultural institutions in Hyogo Prefecture. Designed by renowned architect Tadao Ando, the museum building itself is considered a masterwork of contemporary Japanese architecture, featuring exposed concrete walls and geometric forms that create a dramatic interplay of light and shadow. The structure was built on the former site of military facilities and reflects Ando's signature minimalist aesthetic while harmonizing with the nearby UNESCO World Heritage site, Himeji Castle.

Free admission is available for high school students and younger visitors, as well as for those aged 65 and over residing in Himeji.
