The reward after overcoming the stairs was worth the effort. The view of Himeji Castle during sunset was quite spectacular.
This is clearly the spot to be as there were quite a few people with very professional looking camera equipment (tripods and long lenses). I wonder how their photos turned out?
The hike was very crazy. It is very dark at night but I heard in the morning the view is amazing. Not too many people there which was good
Beautiful end of town, short walk from castle nth east side.
Follow signs to Literature Museum,
Walk all carp filled river/moat,
Through the little village 200-300
to shrine on right
Climb stairs for the reward
Everyone is right: this is the spot to take pictures of himeji castle from a distance. The stairs are very long, so it's not for those who will have trouble climbing stairs. But otherwise the night photos are amazing
Holy moly! The steps are steep, with a couple of resting spots for you to catch your breath. Pictures do not fully capture the vertical incline of the stairs… You get a nice, peaceful view of Himeji Castle from the top and a reminder of how out of shape you have become.
